Medal of Honor for Sea Rangers

19 Apr 2019 | Sea Ranger Service

During the graduation ceremony of the graduates for Kleine Zeilvaart and Grote Zeilvaart at the Enkhuizer Maritime College, we were awarded the Honor Medal of Merit for Commercial Sailing. Former mayor of Enkhuizen Jan Baas handed the medal to Sea Rangers Anouk de Ruijter and Jillis Reijmers, who together with founder Wietse van der Werf attended the annual ceremony in the Westerkerk of Enkhuizen.

During his introduction, EZS director Cosmo Wassenaar explained the choice for our young organization. He praised the special approach whereby young adults are put to the test during 5-week boot camps so that 12 Sea Rangers can then be selected for a temporary contract on board a sailing work vessel. The Enkhuizer Maritime College sees our maritime ranger service as a promise for the future of professional sailing, said board member Marijke de Jong afterwards.

The day was extra festive as one of the diplomas for Grote Zeilvaart was handed over to Andrea Vestering, who sails with the Sea Rangers on the temporarily rented Tooluka. The first self-built Sea Ranger ship is awaiting completion at a shipyard in Hardinxveld-Giessendam and we hope to get it operational later this year.
